Zustand: Very good. Lovely late Dutch Golden Age edition of the New Testament in Greek. Any history of the Bible attests that questions of translation have engendered problems of theology; a printed New Testament in Greek was a serious need for humanist and religious scholars alike. Yet printed editions of the New Testament in Greek were delayed behind their Latin counterparts for two main reasons: Greek typefaces took longer to develop than Roman, and fewer European scholars studied Greek. The New Testament was first printed in Greek in Erasmus's famed 1516 edition, with scholarly editions like this one to follow in subsequent centuries. 12mo, 6.25'' x 3.75''. Early mottled calf sympathetically rebacked, gilt floral cornerpieces, gilt-stamped spine, red goatskin spine label. Marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. [12], 564 pages. Engraved bookplate to front pastedown; early 20th century ink annotations to fly leaf; much earlier ink owner name to title page. Corners worn down, with some rubbing to boards; some light marginal foxing to text.

Zustand: Molto buono. In-8° (cm. 15,3), legatura in piena pelle con titolo in oro su tassello bordeaux al dorso restaurato,piatti inquadrati da cornici di motivi geometrici in oro (lievi tracce d'uso); pp. [8] 112, 560, 38 [2] in ottimo stato (senza un foglio di guardia). Con 1 graziosa tavola in antiporta incisa in rame e 4 tavole sempre in rame,più volte ripiegate fuori testo. Dopo la prefazione, segue la prima parte con il testo in latino e la seconda in greco, infine leNotae Criticae. Esemplare molto buono. (NK7).

Includes an important eulogy of the author by Arnold Poelenburg. In this copy in an early hand on a preliminary flyleaf is a 36-line account of the author's life. Copinger 1241; Willems 1506: "Belle edition publiée par les soins de Phil. à Limborch.".
