Coumbe is a former Associate Professor of History at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. He served as a researcher for Oneida Professional Services. Previously, he was a historian for the U.S. Army Cadet Command, the organization responsible for overseeing the Army's ROTC program. Dr. Coumbe has more than 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration. His teaching portfolio includes courses in Military History, World History, Western Civilization, and U.S. History. He has presented over 20 papers at academic conferences and has authored numerous articles and books, all focused on military history and the military officer corps. His primary areas of academic interest and research include ROTC, the United States Military Academy, officer management, military manpower, professional military education, and officer accessions. A retired U.S. Army Colonel (O-6), Dr. Coumbe served for 30 years as a Military Intelligence officer. His assignments included Brigade S-2, Battalion Commander, and Deputy Brigade Commander. He earned a B.S. from the U.S. Military Academy in 1973 and a Ph.D. in History from Duke University in 1985.
