This short story was published anonymously in 'The Dublin University Magazine' in January 1862, and was never published again in any form until this edition was commissioned by the Tragara Press. W.J. Mc Cormack set out his case for Le Fanu's authorship in a general book on the Irish Gothic novelist in 1980.
