Manuskript / Papierantiquität
Working script for the 1968 Broadway play, which ran from January 16, 1968, to December 14, 1968, at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Copy belonging to assistant stage manager Jim Oyster, with his name on the title page in manuscript ink, and his annotations throughout, amending dialogue and noting deletions. Laid in with the script are six revision pages on white stock. Based on the 1961 novel by Muriel Spark, and basis in turn for the 1969 British film directed by Ronald Neame and starring Maggie Smith. A charismatic middle aged teacher at a Scottish all-girls school in the 1930s leads her favored students into dubious, and eventually dangerous, political ground. Set in Edinburgh. Red titled Studio Duplicating Service wrappers. Title page present, noted as copy No. 16 in manuscript ink, with credits for playwright Jay Allen and novelist Muriel Spark. 139 leaves, with last page of text numbered 3-9-38. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages Very Good plus, wrapper Very Good, moderately edgeworn and chipped, bound with two gold brads.
