Nicolson, Harold [Sir Harold George Nicolson KCVO CMG (21 November 1886 - 1 May 1968) was a British diplomat, author, diarist and politician. He was the husband of writer Vita Sackville-West]. Henri-Benjamin Constant de Rebecque (25 October 1767 - 8 December 1830), or simply Benjamin Constant, was a Swiss-French political activist and writer on politics and religion. He was the author of a partly biographical psychological novel, Adolphe.

Durchgängig auf Velin-Papier Papier mit den Wasserzeichen "Adolphe", "Jeannot", "Arche 1901" und "Benjamin Constant" gedruckt. - GETRÜFFELTES EXEMPLAR, zusätzlich mit einem autographen Brief Constants an François-Joseph Talma (1763-1826), Schauspieler an der Comédie-Française (von Napoleon oft und mit Vorliebe gesehen). Neun Zeilen Handschrift auf einem Doppelblatt: Constant schreibt, dass er von Talmas Rückkehr gehört hat und sich freuen würde, ihn in den Produktionen von "Athalie" und "Tiberius" zu sehen. "Je vous confie tous nos voeux, &, j'espère que vous traversez, dans votre amitié, des moyens de les contenter" ("Ich sende Ihnen unsere herzlichsten Grüße und hoffe, dass Sie in Ihrer Freundschaft Möglichkeiten finden, sich mit diesen zu begnügen"). Datiert "Le 9 juillet", ohne Jahr, wohl um 1820 [in diesem Jahr wurde Athalie an der Comédie-Française gegeben]. - EINBAND: Signierter Meistereinband auf fünf Bünden mit goldgeprägter Deckeldekoration, Seidenvorsätzen und dreiseitigem Goldschnitt, gestaltet von H. Blanchetière in Paris (Namenszug im vorderen Innendeckel, am unteren Kapital mit Datierung Paris 1904). - WEITERES: Herausgabe und Bindung dieser Ausgabe erfolgte noch während der Drucklegung. So ist der Orig.-Umschlag des Werkes in zwei Versionen eingebunden, mit je eigenem Druckvermerk für 1901 und 1902. Ebenso beigebunden finden sich 3 Bll. Probedrucke als Beispielseiten 42, 197 und 167. Der Text dieser Seite 42 erscheint im Buch auf den Seiten 86-88, jener der Seite 197 auf Seite IV des Vorworts. Die Radierung dieser Seite wurde nicht ins Buch aufgenommen. - Wie in vielen Exemplaren ist auch hier beigebunden: Clément-Jeannin, Le Livre d'artiste, Paris, Charles Bosse, 1904, 4 Bll., 21 Seiten, 3 Bll.; Exemplar der Ausgabe auf Velin, numeriert 51 - 115, vorliegend die Nr. 76. Zusätzlich beigebunden ein handschriftlicher Brief des Verlegers Jeanniot an einen unbekannten Empfänger vom 26. Juni 1904 (2 Bll.), in der er das vorliegende Buch zum Verkauf anbietet. - Im Vorsatz 2 Exlibris, von Henri Lenseigne und Yves Sterlin. Auf dem Vortitelblatt montiert eine handschriftliche Beschreibung eines Antiquars wohl des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts, in französischer Sprache. Linienvergoldung auf Vorderdeckel stellenweise abgeblättert. Ansonsten tadellos erhalten. Sprache: Französisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1800 Meistereinband auf fünf Bünden mit goldgeprägter Deckeldekoration, Seidenvorsätzen und dreiseitigem Goldschnitt von H. Blanchetière.

Superba edizione figurata dal De Solomko del capolavoro letterario di Constant, nell`ambito della \"Petite Bibliotéque Andréa\". Tiratura complessiva di 1012 esemplari; il nostro non numerato, è della tiratura di 99 (dal nedeg; 81 al 180), su Carta Imperiale del Giappone, \"ou vélin teinté d`Arches\"; esemplare ad personam riservato a Georges Vicaire, con omaggio autografo di uno degli editori, F. Ferroud, in calce alla giustificazione di tiratura. George Vicaire (1853-1921) fu bibliotecario della Bibliotéque Nationale e corrispondente della Biblioteca Vaticana. Fu autore di fondamentali bibliografie sulla gastronomia, su Honoré de Balazac, sulla letteratura del XIX secolo. Finito di stampare il 15 maggio 1913. L`\"Adolphe\" pubblicato in prima edizione nel 1816, costituisce uno dei più ragguardevoli esempi di analisi psicologica in ambito romanzesco del XIX secolo; l`eroe del libro fu anche visto come caratteristico prototipo, accanto a \"René\" di Chateaubriand e \"Obermann\" di Sénancour, del cosidetto \"male del secolo\". Esemplare in ottimo stato di conservazione.
