First Edition. Octavo (20.5cm.); publisher's pictorial staplebound self-wrappers printed in blue; [12]pp. Upper cover rather unevenly toned, else Very Good and sound. Post-World War II arguments against universal military training; upper cover illustration signed in image by Bernard Seaman, depicting Uncle Sam presenting the U.N. with a document reading simply "Disarmament," while holding behind his back another document which reads "We gotta have conscription!!!" One separately catalogued copy in OCLC as of August, 2018, at the IISH.

On the first page the 'object of this Review' is described as 'to provide a forum for discussion in which the organisations represented on the 18-30 Conference and their individual members can express their views on subject of common interest'. On the last page the 18-30 Conference is described as 'a consultative body', inaugurated in November 1946, 'established in recognition of the need to provide a forum for discussion on the interests of young citizens in the manifold activities of national life'. Henriques' paper is on pp.3-4, with pp.5-6 carrying 'some opinions of National Service by the conscripts themselves'. Copies of any issues of this magazine are extremely scarce, with the only entries on COPAC at Oxford, Cambridge, the National Library of Scotland and the British Library. Second edition of Seventeen Years' History of the Life and Sufferings of James M'Lean, describing his time as an American under forced conscription in the British Navy. (illustrator). Second Edition. Small octavo, 27pp, [18]. Three-quarter sheepskin, title in gilt on spine. Marbled paper over boards, with matching marbled endpapers. Stated "Second Edition" on title page. Solid text block, some soiling to covers, foxing to leaves with text printed. (Howes M153) (Sabin 43513). M'Lean was born in Windsor, Connecticut. In 1798, while sailing in the West Indies, he was impressed into the British Navy. He saw action at the Battle of the Nile, escaped in 1799, and was again impressed and served until 1805 when he again escaped. Serving on a French letter-of-marque he was taken by the British and served in India, the Persian Gulf and in China. He escaped for the final time in 1813 and made his way back to Newport, Rhode Island. Full title: Seventeen Years' History of the Life and Sufferings of James M'Lean. An Impressed American Citizen & Seaman. Embracing But A Summary of What He Endured, While Detained In The British Service, During that Long and Painful Period, Written by Himself.

"Citoyens ! le Comité de salut public nous a fait passer la lettre que vous lui avez écrite le 29 Pluviôse pour lui demander : 1°. Si les fonctionnaires et employés salariés, exempts de faire en personne le service de la garde nationale, ne doivent pas du moins être astreints au payement de la taxe de remplacement. 2°. Si ce remplacement et la taxe doivent avoir lieu, lorsque la garde nationale sédentaire fait un service de réquisition et soldé", etc. État A. 1795.

"Vu la lettre du Citoyen Cunier, Commissaire supérieur du Département, pour l'organisation des Citoyens de la première classe ; ouï le Procureur-général-syndic : les Administrateurs du Directoire du Département du Bas-Rhin, arrêtent en séance publique, que les Directoires des Districts de Barr, Strasbourg & Haguenau, donneront sur le champ les ordres pour faire réunir à Dorlisheim tous les citoyens de la première classe, tant ceux qui ne se sont pas encore levés, que ceux qui se sont dispersés, (?). Le citoyen Prieur est requis d'envoyer aussitôt un Commissaire des guerres, en résidence provisoire à Dorlisheim, lequel sera chargé de la comptabilité & subsistance de ladite levée, & de concourir avec le citoyen Cunier à la prompte organisation de la première classe".
