Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, endpapers and edges, raised back with two labels with gilt text, headcap sligthly damages, hinges with some wear but still firm. Fine/good copy without the usual foxing or staining at the inside. First edition of this important narrative on the history and economy of Java. A Dutch translation appeared in 1833. The frontispiece depicts the Buitenzorg Palace; the map by F. Callens, colored in outlines, describes the Dutch territories in the Far East. With the small engraved ex-libris tipped-in on the first paste-down of ''Le Baron Guy de Thysebaert''.
