The interesting memoirs of Philip de Commines, a writer and diplomat in the courts of Burgundy and France. He is best known for his analyses of contemporary politics. Alongside the histories of Louis XI and Charles the Bold. With an additional, 'Scandalous Chronicle' regarding the secret history of Louis XI, by Jean de Troyes. Edited with a biography and notes by Andrew R. Scoble. Each volume has a half title page, and 24 pages of publisher's catalogue to the rear. Uniformly bound in the publisher's full cloth. Externally, excellent with light shelf wear to the edges. Light marks to the boards of volume two with some bumping to the spine. The odd spot to the front paste-down and free endpaper of volume two. Internally, binding strained to volume one, but still firm. Pages lightly age-toned to the edges but otherwise very bright and clean. The occasional small handling mark throughout. Offsetting to the title page of volume two. Light spotting to the frontispieces. Small closed tear to the upper title page of volume one. Closed tear to page xli of volume one, about 2 inches long. Numerous pages are uncut throughout. Near Fine. book.
