In forma didattico-letteraria contengono interessanti osservazioni in tema di storia naturale e farmacia (veleni, ecc.). Si narra, ad esempio, che fu il primo ad operare la distinzione tra farfalle diurne e notturne. Testo latino con traduzione italiana, che appare per la prima volta, per opera del Salvini che vi aggiunse anche le varianti e le sue annotazioni.

Ottimo stato di conservazione. Fra le preliminari è stato inserito un foglio a stampa di ulteriore dedica del Bandini al celebre medico Van Swieten non presente negli altri esemplari censiti. L'attaccatura di quest'ultima ha lasciato una traccia di colla al margine interno del verso del frontespizio. Pregiata edizione che raccoglie le due uniche opere che ci sono pervenute del medico e letterato greco Nicander. In forma didattico-letteraria contengono interessanti osservazioni in tema di storia naturale e farmacia (veleni, ecc.). Bilingual edition (Greek & Latin) of two medical hexametric poems by the Hellenistic poet and physician Nicander of Colophon (fl. second century BCE), followed by a part with ancient scholia in Greek. The two poems are followed by comments by its translator, the Parisian pharmacist Jean de Gorris (1505-1577). They were first published separately in 1549 and 1556 and here for the first time published together. Nicander wrote at least 20 works, but "only his Theriaca (958 hexameters on poisonous creatures and on antidotes for their bites and stings) and Alexipharmaca (630 hexameters on antidotes to poisons) are extant"."Nicander's influence on later Greek and Latin literature was considerable. Not only did Virgil, Ovid, and Antoninus Liberalis draw on his works, but Lucan, Pliny the Elder, Erotian, Aelian, and Athenaeus of Naucratis also benefited from direct or indirect familiarity with Nicander. In the 1st century BCE the enormously learned scholar Didymus ("Chalcenterus") appears to have made extensive use of Nicander's lexicographic contributions. Although Dioscorides only twice cites Nicander's views in his Materia Medica, Galen in his pharmacological works quotes a number of verse passages from Nicander. Papyrus fragments from the 1st to 3rd centuries [CE] further confirm Nicander's popularity in the Roman empire" (Von Staden). First Paris edition of a work on antidotes, by the Greek poet and physician Nicander of Colophon, (fl. second century BC). "Nicander wrote at least 20 works, of which two survive: Theriaca on poisonous creatures, with remedies against their stings and bites, and Alexipharmaca on antidotes to poisons. Both are indebted to Apollodorus" (Wilson). The present edition gives the text in Greek with the Latin translation, along with annotations by the Parisian pharmacist Jean de Gorris (1505-1577). "After a poem addressed to Protagoras of Cyzicus, [the Alexipharmaca] presents 22 substances and entities - animal, vegetable, and mineral - that are fatal or harmful to human beings. Some of the more notorious toxic substances known to antiquity are included: hemlock, aconite, opium, henbane and blister beetle. In each case, the poet first describes the symptoms produced by the poison, and then the antidotes" (Wilson).With the late 18th-century armorial bookplate of the Trotter family of Mortonhall on pastedown, with the motto "in promptu", the red morocco bookplate of the incunabula collector F.B. Lorch on flyleaf, an owner's inscription on the title page (Dr. Ramsay), and an auction inscription on flyleaf, dated January 1714. Bookblock almost completely detached from binding, with a large waterstain in the upper right corner and slightly smudged margins, otherwise in good condition.
