First performed at Covent Garden in 1803, a patriotic comedy centred upon the honest but impoverished tradesman Job Thornberry. Love in a Village: A Comic Opera, in Three Acts by Isaac Bickerstaff. First performed at Covent Garden in 1762, following the disguised lovers Rosetta and Young Meadows, each of whom enters domestic service while attempting to escape an arranged marriage, only to discover that they were intended for one another. The work became one of the most successful English comic operas of the 18th century. The Poor Gentleman: A Comedy, in Five Acts by George Colman the Younger. First performed at Covent Garden in 1801, a lively rural comedy with eccentric characters including Sir Robert Bramble and the chatty Doctor Ollapod. A compact theatrical collection combining two of Colman"s most successful comedies with Bickerstaff"s landmark English comic opera. In a contemporary full calf binding.Externally, generally smart.
