He was the founder of a dynasty of engravers that would play a significant role in establishing Antwerp as one of the leading centres for printmaking in Europe in the second half of the 16th century and the early 17th century.Biography artist: Jan Snellinck or Jan Snellinck (I) (c. 1548 - 1 October 1638) was a Flemish painter, draughtsman and designer of tapestries, prints and frescoes. He is known for his large altarpieces and was also recognized as a leading battle painter in his time. Snellinck was active as an art dealer and art collector. Condition: good, given age. He Executed Some Engravings, And Was A Prolific Source Of Drawings That Were Then Engraved And Published By Others. In The Twenty Pieces Depicting The Celebrated Women Of The Old Testament, His Drawings Were Engraved By Adrien Collaert (C. 1560-1618) And Karel De Mallery (C, 1576-After 1631), Two Of Phillip Galle's Sons-In-Law, And Adrien's Brother Hans / Jan Collaert (1566-1628). Each Plate Has Small Glue Marks On Reverse Where They Were Tipped In To An Album.

Twelfth plate of a series of twenty plates showing the life of the Virgin after Crispijn van den Broeck; sixteen plates are engraved by Hans Collaert I, two by Jan Ditmaer, and two by an anonymous engraver. The set was first published in 1576 by Adriaen Huybrechts (fl. 1573-1614) On plate 12 (after the drawing in the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh, inv.no.D3125) The Circumcision of Christ: inside a temple with the high-priest performing the operation at centre, the Virgin and St Joseph holding the Christ child are surrounded by other parents waiting with their babies. Lettered on the bottom center: 'CVB in.' and towards the left: 'Adrianus hubertus excudit 1576'. New Hollstein (van den Broeck, 175) l Engraving, no margins, trimmed around the drawn frame, text underneath is missing; state I or II/2; total: 245 x 185 mm; repaired damages on the right and lower borders.
