Y las clasificaciones diagnósticas en salud mental al uso no aciertan a describirlo, según nuestro parecer, en toda su estructuración psíquica. Muchos niños son diagnosticados de TDAH y tratados casi exclusivamente con fármacos, con el riesgo que ello supone de conducir a una medicalización y cronificación del problema. El tratamiento farmacológico sin un abordaje psicológico puede producir mejoría sintomática, pero no aporta la maduración y el progreso que deseamos. Este libro pretende reflexionar acerca de las causas, el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de este síndrome, teniendo en cuenta la complejidad del funcionamiento mental precoz, la estructuración del pensamiento, en especial de la atención, y la interacción entre las vulnerabilidades del niño y la influencia del entorno. Se exponen los aspectos contextuales que están en la base de la proliferación del diagnóstico de dicho trastorno y se presenta una guía clínica para atender esta sintomatología, así como diversos casos clínicos que muestran su aplicación y que ejemplifican la complejidad psíquica y biográfica que puede subyacer en este síndrome. Finalmente, se incluyen unas conclusiones para estimular la reflexión ante esta problemática tan extendida. Esperamos que esta obra sea de utilidad a todas aquellas personas vinculadas de un modo u otro con niños y adolescentes que presentan la sintomatología descrita y especialmente a los profesionales de la salud mental dedicados a este tema.
