A lovely and copiously illustrated copy of this scarce entomological work; being a detailed and copiously illustrated description of the Lepidoptera of the 'London Area'. A first edition copy. This work contains a fascinating and detailed record of the seven hundred and fifteen species of larger moth within twenty miles of St Paul's Cathedral, and is pioneering through its study of the distribution of resident species; shown in the form of five hundred and twenty three detailed distribution maps for the period 1980-1991. This copy is complete with the accompanying transparent overlay, that details the following: 'Boroughs and counties in London' 'Tetrads with chalk at the surface' 'Distribution of built-up areas' 'Distribution of woodland areas, excluding orchards 'The National Grid' 'The Tetrad System'. This work was written by the renowned entomologist Colin W Plant, with beautiful detailed line drawings of moths by Rob Dyke. In the publisher's original hard cover binding, with coloured pictorial image to the front board. Externally lovely, with minor shelfwear to head of spine and the odd light mark to boards. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout. Transparent overlay present, and in a lovely condition. Fine. book.
