An early standard geography, the chapters lay out basic concepts like the equator and oceans, as well as information on various cultures and locations. The Breviarium, the 70pp section, delves further into cultural and historical matters, as well as providing a list of Roman emperors. This edition does not contain maps or other illustrations, though there is no evidence of their removal. Size: 2 1/2" x 4 1/2". Book.

Maps and text in excellent condition. Stunningly printed maps, both contemporary and classical, of Europe, Africa, Asia, Asia Minor, the Holy Land and the Americas. Included is a beautiful double hemisphere map of the world. An avid traveler and geographer, Philipp Cluver (1580-1623) was born in Gdansk, but spent most of his life in Leiden. Originally published in 1624, this atlas was considered a standard for many years, as evidenced by its numerous reissues.

There is a printed page listing the 38 maps and page where each should appear so either book was published without the maps or was a some point rebound with out the maps. Owner bookplate inside rear cover, contemporary ink title on fore-edges. VG, light wear.
