The sub-title reads: Yorktown, ancient and venerable, became heroic and glorious in 1781 when it witnessed the crowning victory of the Revolutionary War, which achieved American Independence & assured the establishment of the United States. This small and slender hard cover book (6 ¼ x 9 ¼ inches, 51 pages plus 5 pages of Epilogue) was published by the Yorktown Historical Society of Yorktown, Virginia dated 1924 (just reaching its 100th year!). The book is bound in blue papered boards with a quarter spine in beige cloth and a title panel on the front cover. This copy was personally inscribed to Hon. William Burdette Mathews by the direction of the Board of Governors of the Society. The book was subsequently passed on to a former owner by Wm. Burdette Mathews as is noted below the original inscription on the front endpaper. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are lightly soiled and darkened from normal handling, especially on the spine. The only marks I found in the book are those of the inscriptions mentioned above. The interior pages are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
