Ribbon copy typescript on onionskin, with two small annotations, one on page 16 of the word "ice" written into the dialogue in manuscript marker and the page number "100," underlined, in manuscript ink at the top margin of that page. From the estate of film producer Elliott Kastner, whose best known credits include "The Long Goodbye" (Robert Altman, 1973), "The Missouri Breaks" (Arthur Penn, 1976), and "Heat" (Michael Mann, 1996). Based on the 1971 novel by Donald MacKenzie, the third entry in his Henry Chalice Mystery series, preceded by "Salute from a Dead Man" (1966) and "Death is a Friend" (1967). Jewel thief Paul Henderson has had a run of bad luck when he is offered a job on a big heist from a career criminal he's worked with before, but when he arrives in Switzerland for the crime, he faces a double cross and a kidnapping. Revised and Final Shooting script for the 1958 film, copy belonging to Production Designer George Provis. Laid in are over 30 pages of notes, shooting schedules, and call sheets, including four pages of original pencil storyboards, as well as several clippings of handwritten notes, all in Provis' hand, as well as seven letters written to Provis, most typed letters signed from Production Manager "Freddie" Pearson, all dating from 1957. George Provis was a British Art Director and Production Designer who began his career working on quota quickies (low budget features made to comply with Britain's Cinematograph Films Act of 1927) in the 1930s. After the Second World War, Provis was appointed by British film producer Sydney Box to head the art department at Gainsborough Pictures, and is credited on over 120 films. Based on the 1940 novel by Phyllis Bottome. Set in Austria during WWII, a young Austrian boy is forced to sell the family dog to pay for food, rather than have his abusive father, played by Donald Pleasence, sell the dog to the butcher. Shot on location in Innsbruck, Austria. Tall titled orange wrappers, noted as Shooting Script on the front wrapper, dated 26.9.57. Although not indicated, shot and struck by the film's still photographer, Bob Willoughby, with an agency stamp on the verso. Full provenance available. After studying with Saul Bass at the Kann Institute of Art in Los Angeles, photographer Robert Willoughby began working for magazines such as "Life," "Look," and "Harper's Bazaar" in the late 1940s. He spent the next 20-plus years as a set photographer for every major studio and magazine, with his images seen in print literally every week of his career.
