The result is gardens which have the intimacy of a diary or memoir, indeed the accounts by the contributors often read like leaves torn from a jounral, full of passion and idiosyncrasy as their pride and prejudice are revealed. These are private arcadias into which we, the public, are now allowed to pry. How generous they are to unfold the pag es for our contemplation. How much one understands the contributor who unashamedly states that the essence of her garden is that it is a closed world." ; FINE/FINE. Book.

In den Warenkorb2pp., 4to. Printed on the same side of one piece of shiny art paper, folded to make a bifolium. Aged and stained, with wear and slight loss to extremities. Photograph of Russell beneath title, alongside 'Sonnet | To W. Clark Russell', reprinted 'From "English Sea Pictures." By Julia D. Young, Author of "Barham Beach, the President's Poem." - New York.' The author laments that '[i]n this country, it is not the fashion to ennoble those who really do something for their time and generation', such as Russell, whose 'stupendous output' consists of 'fifty-seven books everyone [sic] of them good'. The article concludes: 'Of a surety is such a hero a national asset, and the more we think of the subject, the greater is our admiration for that skipper of Calcutta, who first called our attention to the fact. May the fates be kinder to the stricken writer, and may he long be spared to wield his able pen. The nation can better spare many more-advertised and gaudily-decorated patriots, than can it Mr. W. Clark Russell - a citizen of the universal world.' No other copy of this offprint traced, either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC.
