Paperback. Zustand: Good. The Sunflowers, author Christopher St. Clair's second uplifting work of contemporary fiction, charts a tale of innocence and experience, as abandoned siblings rise above their youth to keep family and home in tact. Anyone who relishes a stirring, enthralling story with a Southern spin will fall in love with these souls of tender age and heart. On one life-altering Alabama morning, Noah Dean Jackson and his three siblings, John Martin, James Trevor, and Lillie Ann, wake up to an eerily empty house. After hearing the all-too-frequent noises of discord coming from their parents room the night before, all that remains is a toppled chair and the four of them to wonder what became of their parents, Cain and Lora Ann, and to equally wonder what will become of the four of them. With strength and compassion, The Sunflowers paints an absorbing portrait of people and place that is inflected with a Southern accent and certain to engage anyone who appreciates authentic regional literature. Each character comes to life the moment he or she appears on the page, and its certain to quickly capture your heart and imagination. This is Christopher's second book. His first was I Love You, Millie which is a must read also.…

Zustand: as new. Washington, DC : American Maritain Association, 2009. Paperback. 270 pp. Jacques Maritain was one of the leading French and Thomist philosophers of the twentieth century. He was particularly fond of America and its political experiment in liberal democracy. He taught at four American universities and came to know the young republic first hand. Maritain and America explores the engagement of his thought with the American political experiment in representative democracy and the culture of liberal individualism that it has fostered. The book begins with a consideration of the sources for the American founding English common law, Protestant Christianity, Lockean natural rights theoryâand then proceeds to examine the American political order from the perspective of various philosophers in the tradition of Thomas Aquinas. These scholars are concerned with, among other things, the relationship of natural law and natural rights, understandings of the common good, and achieving unity in a pluralist society. One set of essays discusses America's unique settlements between faith and reason and between church and state. Another set explores the philosophy of personalism, one of the most notable projects that Thomists, such as Maritain, have undertaken in order to provide a metaphysical understanding of the human person that can both provide a foundation for natural rights and yet be open to a transcendent order of goodness. Other scholars take up the task of developing a theory of tolerance (in the context of a pluralist society) that is grounded in a common quest for wisdom and truth. The final section applies Thomistic ethics in the context of contemporary American society. Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9780966922684. Keywords : PHILOSOPHY.…
