In den letzten 3 lahrzehnten wurde eine nahezu uniibersehbare Anzahl verschiedener chirurgischer Verfahren zur Stabilisierung des Kniegelenks angegeben. Nachdem die intra- und extraartikuliiren Bandplastiken mit au togenen Ersatzmaterialien nicht die erhoffen Ergebnisse erbracht hatten, wurden groBe Hoffnungen in den kiinstlichen Bandersatz gesetzt. Leider konnten auch mit den Bandprothesen aus Polymeren, Kohlen stoffasern und allogenen Materialien auf Dauer nicht die erwiinschten Re sultate erzielt werden. In den letzten lahren hat man deshalb vermehrt versucht, die Insuffizi enz der autogenen Ersatzplastiken durch eine temporiire oder dauerhafte Verstiirkung mit einem Implantat zu vermeiden (Augmentation). Die Erfahrung der letzten lahrzehnte hat jedoch gezeigt, daB trotz neuer Kenntnisse und Operationsverfahren die wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen des Verhaltens von Sehnentransplantaten und Bandprothesen nicht ausreichend bekannt sind. Aus diesem Grund haben sich die fuhrenden deutschen Arbeitsgruppen auf dem Gebiet des Bandersatzes zu einem Workshop auf der Reisensburg zusammengefunden, urn vor allem ihre experimentellen Ergebnisse darzu stellen und zu diskutieren. Alle wichtigen Verfahren zur Kniegelenkstabili sierung wie frische Bandniihte, autogene und allogene Bandplastiken, Bandprothesen und Augmentationstechniken wurden dargestellt und disku tiert. Die Beitriige der Autoren bieten damit einen sehr guten Uberblick iiber den derzeitigen Stand der Forschung zu den wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen des Bandersatzes.
