Précédé d'une…"Epître Dédicatoire au Désoeuvrement", ce poème de six chants imprimé à "Otiopolis" (la "cité des loisirs") se situe dans la veine des discours du temps consacrés à la Félicité publique et au Bonheur des citoyens. On y retrouve diverses résonances maçonniques (l'auteur, alors âgé de 26 ans, sera membre de la "Société Olympique"). Mais on notera surtout que dans son cinquième chapitre, l'auteur "est témoin du supplice de Charles Premier, Roi d'Angleterre" et évoque la "Consolation de Charles en mourant par la main d'un Bourreau" ; on ne peut lire sans quelque émotion les lignes qui suivent si l'on songe que Charles Hector Comte d'Estaing mourra la tête tranchée par la guillotine le 28 avril 1794 ! : "Adorant du Très-haut la sagesse infinie, Se repaissoit des biens promis dans l'autre vie : Sans crainte et sans retard bravant le coup fatal, Sa main avec plaisir en donna le signal. On n'obéit que trop ; et le fer homicide. Je ne regardai point cet affreux parricide ; Mais ne pu me cacher dans mon étonnement Qu'on Goûtoit du plaisir même au dernier moment". Une mention au crayon en premier garde volante précise : "relié par Petit, succr de Simier". Etat très satisfaisant (coiffes arasées, petites mq. aux mors en coiffes, très bon état intérieur).
