Cette édition fut publiée au cours de la soumission du Code civil au Corps Législatif, avant même la parution de l'édition officielle, afin de "seconder la juste impatience de tous les citoyens, en leur en offrant, par livraisons, le texte pur et correct, avec les motifs dont les membres du Conseil d'Etat en accompagnent la présentation" (préface de l'auteur).
