John Carew Rolfe (1859-1943) was long a professor of Latin, at Cornell, Harvard, the University of Michigan, and the University of Pennsylvania; and a professor from 1907 to 1908 at the American School of Classical Studies and at the American Academy in Rome from 1923 to 1924. His colleague, Charles Edwin Bennett (1858-1921) became professor of Latin in the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1889, of classical philology at Brown University in 1891, and of Latin at Cornell University in 1892.
