A book of quotations and maxims composed by Gerald Chapman when he was both in and out of prison. Chapman, nicknamed the Count of Gramercy Park, was an American criminal who was one of the leaders of a Prohibition-era gang through the mid 1920s. This little book, presented by Chapman's lawyer, was intended to show that he was an educated gentleman who wasn't given a proper opportunity to prove his innocence. Chapman was given the death penalty by hanging for his alleged crimes. Wiley writes an impassioned plea for the repeal of he death penalty in the book's preface. The book includes a frontispiece portrait of Chapman and a photograph of Wiley. There are two facsimile signatures by Chapman. The book is originally inscribed twice, once by lawyer and publisher Ray Wiley to LeRoy Prinz c/o M.G.M. Studios, and again to LeRoy and Ed Prinz from "Your Old Pal" Harold M. P___? .
