In den WarenkorbZustand: Good. - 21 words penned in blue ink on a 9-1/2 inch high by 6-5/8 inch wide cream sheet of Visva-Bharati [University] letterhead with the address printed at top left & a small device at top right. Signed "A. C. Chakravarty". There is a tear to the top edge of the letter, just touching the date, & another to the left edge just below the address. The tear to the top edge has been repaired with linen tape on the verso. There is a small piece out of the bottom edge. Folded twice for mailing. Good. Writing from Visva-Bharati University, where he studied and was subsequently a teacher, Chakravarty is sending a photograph autographed by Rabindrath Tagore [not here present] to a correspondent: "Dr. Tagore has been pleased to autograph the picture you sent to him for the purpose." Amiya Chandra Chakravarty [1901-1986] was an Indian literary critic, academic and Bengali poet. He was a close associate of Rabindrath Tagore and edited several books of his poetry. He was also an associate of Gandhi, and an expert on the American Catholic writer and monk Thomas Merton. Chakravarty was honored for his own poetry with the Sahitya Award in 1963. He taught literature and comparative religion in India for almost a decade and then for more than two decades at universities in England and the U.S.
