La propaganda del régimen intentó inculcar a los españoles que esto demostraba que Francisco Franco era un dirigente reformista y benéfico. Este libro, basado en dos pilares -el trabajo de archivo y… las memorias de sus protagonistas-, rebate esta idea. En él se explican de forma accesible tanto el mito de la colonización como la realidad que había detrás: el pasado de reforma y revolución suprimido violentamente por el franquismo; la miseria socioeconómica en el mundo agrario durante la dictadura; la ideología que sostenía la colonización; los verdaderos intereses, a menudo ocultos, detrás del proyecto y, sobre todo, la realidad diaria de los nuevos colonos y colonas y de sus pueblos. La colonización sirvió para financiar, a costa de enormes transferencias de capital público, a los grandes terratenientes que vendieron al INC sus tierras o, especialmente, a los que se vieron afectados por las peculiares expropiaciones que aquel hizo. La historia fue muy distinta para los colonos. Una vez seleccionados, comenzaban una odisea que duraba decenios para pagar la tierra y la casa que les vendía el INC, que además les cobraba intereses. Cuando llegaban a los nuevos asentamientos, a menudo las casas y los pueblos no estaban terminados, el estado de la tierra era malo y las exigencias financieras del INC, que se quedaba con buena parte de lo que producían, apenas les dejaba dinero. Ante la dureza de la vida diaria, muchos colonos abandonaron. Los que permanecieron consiguieron aguantar gracias a los enormes sacrificios de las familias y a la solidaridad entre los vecinos, que rápidamente crearon fuertes identidades colectivas en sus nuevos pueblos. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente.
