Manuskript / Papierantiquität
Draft script for the 1979 British-American film, a revision credited to screenwriters Walter Hill and David Giler, based on an earlier draft by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Noted as copy No. 43 in blue manuscript ink on the verso of the last leaf, along with some broad notes on the screenplay. The original drafts for "Alien" were written by O'Bannon and Shusett between 1976-1977. In early-mid 1978 Walter Hill and David Giler rewrote the script over several drafts (this being one of those), and finally in late 1978 Dan O'Bannon returned to do a complete rewrite, and ultimately received the screenwriter credit in the film. One of the greatest science fiction or horror films ever made (take your pick), and the auspicious debut of director Ridley Scott. The franchise was so rich in themes and expandability that it has generated five sequels, including the second "Aliens," directed by James Cameron. The infamous "chest bursting" scene paved the way for future horror films to feature gore in more imaginative ways. Returning home from a mission, the crew of the spacecraft Nostromo is aroused by the ship's computer to answer a distress signal from a nearby planet. The rescue team, lead by Capt. Dallas (Skerritt), discovers a bizarre pod field with pods housing unseen terror. When a face-hugging creature bursts out of a pod and attaches itself to Kane (John Hurt), the crew is reluctant to help. Over the objections of Ripley (Weaver), they let Kane back on the ship, but the alien soon erupts from Kane's chest and escapes, eager to find more human hosts. Shot on location in England. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Effects. Titled blue wrappers, dated 1976, with credits for screenwriters Walter Hill and David Giler. Title page integral with front wrapper. 106 leaves with last leaf numbered 104, eye-rest green stock, rectos only. Xerographically reproduced. Near Fine. National Film Registry. Lentz US. Muir US.

Vintage borderless reference photograph of director Ridley Scott with a camera crew on the set of the 1979 film. One of the greatest science fiction/horror films ever made, a franchise so rich in themes and expandability that it has generated three sequels and two prequels of comparable (or nearly comparable) artistic merit. Returning home from a mission, the crew of the spacecraft Nostromo is awakened by the ship's computer to answer a distress signal from a nearby planet. The rescue team discovers a bizarre pod field with pods housing unseen terror. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Effects. 10 x 8 inches. About Fine. National Film Registry. Ebert II.
