8vo in fours, pp. [vi], vi, 160; contemporary half calf, spine lettered in gilt; a good copy. First edition, and a presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the endpaper: 'The Author requests his pupil Edw. Kent to accept this Volume as a token of his attachment and esteem. Sept 13th, 1821'. Carrington ran an academy for boys at Plymouth Dock, from 1809 until his death in 1830. This book was issued by subscription, and there is a short list of subscribers, showing that most of them were naval or local. After the first, long title poem (pp. 1-90), the miscellaneous additional poems include one 'written at the Grave of Burns', several on the recent wars (inscriptions intended for columns at Corunna, Moscow, Waterloo and elsewhere) and on naval subjects, such as 'The Seaman's Tale' (pp. 112-4).
