No. S3 - the third in the series. ***A third printing of the first UK paperback edition - the third in the new Penguin Special series 'books of urgent topical importance published at sixpence within as short a time as possible from receipt of the manuscript' [as stated on the back cover]. First published in English translation by Penguin Books on 25th Feb 1938 with 40 new caricatures by Joss of the Star. Translated from the French by Paul Selver. The book was reprinted with new footnotes in the same month as the first printing, and again in March 1938 with revisions and new material [this copy]. ***A near fine copy in printed card covers, which have been protected by the original dustwrapper. The covers have some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling - but in this case, these are negligible, with just very light sporadic foxing to the card covers - one of the cleanest pre-war Penguin paperback that we have handled [please see scans]. The lower corner of the back cover is slightly creased. No reading creases to the spine, just a light production paper crease. No tears. No fading. Internally the book is also in near fine condition, with unmarked pages which have tanned lightly over the years. With a contemporaneous ownership inscription to the half-title page 'Marjorie A. Day, Easter 1938'. ***In a very good original printed dustwrapper which has the 6d published price on the front panel. The fragile paper dustwrapper is complete, with just very light wear and rubbing at the folds and the edges, but no loss. The dustwrapper is slightly browned and marked with some foxing. The flaps are clean and uncreased, with just a light ink mark to the front flap. ***252 pages plus four pages of publisher's adverts at the back of the book. 182mm x 112mm. ***'"Chancellor Schuschnigg," writes Mme Tabouis in her new material for this third edition, "did not yield to force but to the threat of force.
