The Rifle Brigade era um regimento de infantaria do exército inglês. Foi formado em Janeiro de 1800 com o nome de Experimental Corps of Riflemen para providenciar atiradores especiais (sharpshooters), batedores (scouts) e atiradores/?escaramuçadores? (skirmishers). Tinham uma função equiparada à dos caçadores portugueses ou dos voltigeurs franceses. Em 1803 foram estabelecidos como unidade regulamentar com a designação de 95º Regimento de Infantaria. Fardavam de verde em vez das cores tradicionais do exército e foram a primeira unidade inglesa a usar uma carabina de fabrico inglês, a Baker, por oposição aos mosquetes das outras unidades de linha. First edition. 'Captain John Kincaid was an officer with the 95th's First Battallion of Wellington's regiments. He joined in the Spring of 1810, and travelled to reinforce the battalion in Spain. With the 95th 'Johnny' Kincaid pursued the French when they withdrew from outside the lines in March 1811; he took part in actions at Santarem, Pombal, Redinha, Casal Nova, Foz d'Arouce (where he was concussed and believed dead), Sabugal, Fuentes d'Onnoro, Fuente Guinaldo, and Aldea de Ponte. After promotion to first lieutenant on 23 May 1811 Kincaid commanded the battalion's highland company and led a detachment of the storming party at the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo in January 1812; at Badajoz he was adjutant of four companies, 'who were to line the crest of the glacis, and to fire at the ramparts and the top of the left breach' (Kincaid, Adventures, 130). He fought at Salamanca and entered Madrid with Wellington in August' (ODNB).
