In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Good Only. None (illustrator). First edition. A very scarce first edition of this patriotic collection of verse inspired by the author's rambles in the Isle of Man, illustrated with five vignette route-maps and issued to raise funds for British prisoners of war in Germany. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding.First edition.A very scarce copy of this work.Illustrated with five vignette route maps to accompany five rambles around the Isle of Man. The photographic frontispiece for this volume is sadly lacking. Originally planned with a suite of photographic plates, wartime restrictions limited the inclusion to a single frontispiece, which is no longer present in this copy.Capper's poems extol the island"s scenery and heritage, concluding with a selection of additional poems, several reflecting on service and sacrifice during the First World War. Proceeds from the sale of the book were donated to support British prisoners of war in Germany. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, sound. Front free endpaper and frontispiece lacking. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. One or two minor handling marks. Offsetting and the odd light spot to endpapers. Offsetting to title page. Hinge cracked, with binding materials exposed, slightly loosened but holding. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean if age toned with the odd spot, heavier to first and last few leaves. Good Only. book.

This prominent Kansas newspaperman (founder and owner "Topeka Daily Capital," etc.) entered politics as a Republican, serving that state as governor (1915-19) and senator (1919-49). Printed DS, 8½" X 14", 13pp (rectos only), Washington, DC, 1940 February 13. Near fine. Staple at upper left. Mimeographed double-spaced text of the powerful senator's speech titled "Abraham Lincoln" and given before the Alexander Hamilton Club of Baltimore on February 12, 1940. Precisely the type of platitudes you would expect an old-time politico to express on Lincoln's birthday, mixed with sharp criticism of FDR and his policies. Signed large and bold by Capper in blue fountain pen across the top of the first page. Accompanied by a superb and scarce 6½" X 8½" glossy news agency photograph of 1947 depicting the senior senator seated at his desk on Capital Hill, reading copies of two newspapers which he founded ("The Topeka Daily Capital" and "Capper's Weekly"). Original tickertape-style printed caption still attached on verso. A fabulous and unusual pair of Kansas items.
