Endpapers offset but clean internally otherwise with no previous owner's markings. Two plays by Camus: Caligula and Le Malentendu. Caligula was written in the cycle of works dealing with the absurd, along with the Outsider, and the Myth of Sisyphus; Le Malentendu written slightly later in his cycle of works dealing with revolt, which also included The Plague. Small 8vo.

End papers are slightly foxed. Scuff to front paste down Binding remains firm. Cracking to hinges, no damage to end papers. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with corner bumping. Slight crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Boards have minor dust stains.

Boards in d.j. 4th impression. Octavo, cloth boards, dustjacket, pp 127. A rectangular area has been cut out from the top edge of the front free (blank) endpaper. Very good condition in like d.j. An absurdist and existentialist classic, first published in French as L'Etranger in 1942. This is the fourth printing of the first UK edition published in 1957 in which year Camus was the recipient of the 1957 Nobel Prize in Literature.
