Hardcover. 8vo. Beige cloth with black spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. ix, 401pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Fine/very good. Mild jacket edgewear only. Quite handsome first edition of this biography of the Kansas writer and newspaper editor/publisher, best remembered for his long in print first novel "The Story of a Country Town" (1883) and author of a string of other books through 1933. Choice presentation inscription on front flyleaf in blue ballpoint from the author to an Iowa educator who apparently played a role in the writing of the book: "To Mike Acton, / Who has done a / superior job -- / Calder M. Pickett / November 13, 1980.".
