Trade Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Cadmus, Paul (cover) (illustrator). Brooklyn: Hanging Loose, 1985. No edition stated (1985). An unusual copy that has been edited and annotated in the hand of POET/WRITER DONALD W. BAKER. Also laid in is a photocopy of the one-page review done by Baker in Burrelle's, December 1986. Baker writes: "He [Ratti] is a poet exploring, without dogma or narrow passion, his past, his world, and himself and discovering moments of beauty, human connection, and terror. But Ratti's work also comes close, sometimes, to banality, in diffused cadences and inexact diction." Also laid in ms. of review by Baker and correspondence from the publisher to Baker. Very good condition. Signed - Association Copy.

Erste Auflage. 144 S. Illustrierter, glanzkaschierter OKarton. Einband wenig nachgedunkelt, Rücken angedunkelt. Sonst gutes Exemplar. Durchgehend mit schwarz-weißen und farbigen Abbildungen versehen. Text in englischer Sprache. Paul Cadmus (17. Dezember 1904 12. Sprache: englisch.

hardcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. Gebraucht - Sehr gut SG - leichte Beschädigungen oder Verschmutzungen, ungelesenes Mängelexemplar, gestempelt - Beginning in 1937, the three painters, Paul Cadmus (1904-1999), Margaret French (1906-1998) and Jared French (1905-1988), vacationed together in Provincetown and Fire Island. With a shared camera, they photographed themselves and their friends against a background of vast, empty beaches. Driftwood, umbrellas, white sheets and old fishing nets were arranged with models, to form oddly surreal compositions. Many such arrangements were later adapted for use in the artists' paintings, several examples of which are also reproduced here. 'These small photographs are revealing in their beautiful compositions, and provide insights as to how these painters interpreted their visual richness for their painting.'.

Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Zustand: FINE. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: FINE. First Edition. A lovely copy with contemporary association between two prominent gay artists. Gifted by artist Paul Cadmus to photographer and publisher, Stathis Orphanos: 'for Stathis / a bit of nonsense, / thinking of the /start of a / friendship that / is quite the / opposite. / Paul / 17 ix 86.' With Orphanos's pencil note specifying 'Paul Cadmus.' [12], 3-289pp., 20 B/W line-drawing plates. 12mo, black finished cloth, gilt spine lettering. FINE in FINE dust jacket, exceedingly clean and fresh. 'A funny, and kind of mean, taxonomy, of gay types in London in the Thatcher years' offering a Dante-esque barhopping descent into Hell (a night-club named 'Heaven'). The DJ describes it as 'A combination of drama, diary, documentary and monologue, Queens is the first book to have charted the labyrinths of the metropolitan gay scene. At once acid and sympathetic, it is both an anatomy of a subculture and a virtuoso celebration.' Pitch-perfect for some but too acid for others, the book received very mixed reviews with many angered by the use of negative stereotypes.

This American artist's unorthodox WPA tempera murals ("The Fleet's In!" hints at homosexuality) in a style that came to be known as "magic realism" catapulted him to fame and controversy; male nudes were a favorite subject. Large, bold signature in blue ballpoint, heavy stock 5" X 3" card, n.p., 1976 June 1. Fine. With original envelope. A handsome example in Cadmus's superb script.
