Zustand: FINE. First printing. A carefully researched story of this woman who lived very privately for most of her life in El Paso, Texas. She was born in 1881 in Missouri, and moved to the small frontier town of El Paso with her parents at the age of one year, and other than her music studies at Berkeley and touring as a singer, she spent the rest of her life there. She married a railroad executive, whom she had first met when touring and was widowed eighteen years later. There were some difficult years, but as El Paso grew, her wealth from real estate ventures also increased. Thoughout her life she was generous in donating to the city and at her death she bequeathed the University of Texas as El Paso over three million dollars. Color frontispiece, photographs, including some in color. An attractive volume, a small quarto,designed by Carl Hertzog and bound in turquoise cloth boards, with a gilt fan on the front cover, over a lavender cloth spine. Index. xvi, 143 pp. Fine in near fine dust jacket (price-clipped).
