Hardbound. Zustand: As New. New. Contents Acknowledgements. 1. Introduction. 2. Bhakti reform sects and social reformers of Gujarat. 3. Dargahs and syncretic shrines in Gujarat. 4. Syncretic communities in Gujarat. 5. Hindu Muslim economic interdependence and social amity. 6. People's peace initiatives during 2002 carnage. 7. Conclusion. Bibliography. Index. Gujarat is a land of paradoxes. On the one hand it has produced luminaries like Akho Sayaji Rao Gaekwad and Gandhi who tirelessly worked for the upliftment of the society and to promote peace and amity among people of all faiths on the other it has drawn worldwide attention for the repeated communal pogroms between Hindus and Muslims. The riots after the Godhra incident in 2002 were perhaps the most widespread and virulent. This has led many scholars activists and NGOs to record and trace the scale and nature of violence to provide a geography of violence. An extensive study undertaken in different parts of Gujarat after two years of the pogrom however indicated that the aftermath was mainly confined to the central part of the state. In other areas there were only few skirmishes. There are thousands of Dargahs and Mazars in the state which are frequented both by Hindus and Muslims. Only some prominent Dargahs with high financial turnovers were a bit affected. In fact at one village in Kutch District a Bajrang Dal activist was found expanding the shrine through public contribution. In this book several syncretic shrines have been documented along with portrayal of many communities with dual or liminal identities. 238 pp.

Designing training programmes for entrepreneurship development/M.S. Nain and Rashmi Singh. Agriculture sector is at the crossroads economically, environmentally, socially and technologically. Shrinking land base and rampant unemployment are the marked features of our rural areas. There is need to commercialize and diversify Indian Agriculture to create agro-based employment opportunities in such a way that one can generate more income per unit of area. With liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, the whole world has come to our local markets where farmers and their produce have to compete with multinationals in terms of quality and price. In this scenario entrepreneurship development can prove to be a gainful employment opportunity for our educated youth. Entrepreneurs are not born but can be developed through appropriate education skills development and guidance. The present book "Entrepreneurship Development in Agriculture" is aimed at providing the conceptual orientation of entrepreneurship and elaborating the three phases of entrepreneurship development viz. Entrepreneurial stimulation enterprise launching and enterprise sustenance. Besides these two more section agro enterprise options and designing trading for entrepreneurship development are providing the details of various technological options to take up as agro enterprise and various training modules for inculcating entrepreneurial spirit. The book is an outcome of document the experiences generated at Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) which pioneered the efforts in this direction by establishing Entrepreneurship development Unit in 1995 in the Division of Agricultural Extension. Hardcover. Zustand: New. Contents: Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. The concept of ex-criminal tribes: denotified tribes. 3. Laman Banjaras: the people. 4. Culture. 5. Religion. 6. Economy. 7. Social organisation. 8. Health care, disease and treatment. 9. Social problems--controversy of scheduled tribe status. 10. Social change and conclusion. Index. During the British colonial period many of the nomadic, semi-nomadic tribes and peripatetic groups received a severe jolt owing to the rules imposed upon them. Their loss of control over forests and lands caused severe alienation from the society and traditional livelihood system. This compelled many of them to take to theft, robbery and other crimes. They were one of the first groups in India to oppose the colonial rule and were branded as criminal tribe. Many other sedentary groups and people belonging to Hindu high castes too were similarly branded after opposing the British. The traditionally nomadic Laman Banjaras trading in salt and merchandise similarly faced severe crisis with the advent of roadways and railways and were forced to lead a criminal life. In the post-Independence period along with other ex-criminal tribes, they have been put under the category of denotified tribe. In Maharashtra they are popularly known to fall within the category of VJNT. While some of the Lamans have prospered in life, the majority of them are still languishing in a state of utter poverty though they have been able to overcome the tag of criminality to a large extent. The development of agriculture from 1st industrial revolution to 4th has been enormous. Industrial and agricultural revolution has taken up place to the present day providing ideas and considerations for the future. Global agriculture has improved over several years, which highlights how we move forward in terms of increased crop production. During that same time, the population increased quickly, but the area under cultivation did not increase with the same pace. Farmers have always produced food, but their methods of production change throughout time. Machines make it easier and more efficient to cultivate and harvest crops. Machines replaced human beings and animals in most of the activities and do a lot of work faster and more accurately. Farmers' still continue to cultivate the crops and produce the food required by people and animals just as they did in the past, but with new technological innovations. Therefore, a transformation in the Agriculture sector is a definite need for a self-reliant India and can it self serve as an economic stimulus as it touches upon different sections of the society including those who are struggling to survive in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The rationale for the design of structural analogues of a normal metabolite is that such compounds may interfere in the utilization or function of the metabolite. A compound which is effective in this respect may be called an antimetabolite. To be successful in chemotherapy of bacterial, viral, or tumor growth, an antimetabolite should adversely affect some vital metabolic reactions in the parasite or parasitic tissue without seriously endangering the host tissue. If a metabolic process of the offending growth is different from that of the host, it is likely that the metabolism or activity of a compound, structurally related to a metabolite involved in that process, will also be different in these cells. Such differences are useful for devising effective drugs with selective actions. Sulfanilamide, a structural analogue of para aminobenzoic acid, interferes with the utilization of this metabolite in the synthesis of folic acid, an essential factor for growth. Bacteria synthesize their own folic acid and are incapable of utilizing exogenously available folic acid. However, the situation is exactly opposite in the animal host. That is, animal tissues cannot synthesize folic acid and are absolutely dependent upon exogenous sources. These differences in metabolism make possible the use of sulfanilamide as a selective inhibitor of growth. Other antibacterial or antiparasitic drugs, such as penicillin (BURCHALL, FERONE and HITCHINGS, 1965) and inhibitors of dihydrofolate reductase (HITCHINGS and BURCHALL, 1965; HITCHINGS, 1964; BURCHALL and HITCHINGS, 1965) have analogous desirable selective toxicity effects.
