The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Bookplate to the front paste down. In his account of the mythology of birds, Brown uses literary and historical sources to create a delightful exploration of folklore, legends and old beliefs about birds, from the eagle to the woodpecker. Illustrated with a frontispiece and many full-page wood engravings by John Farleigh (1900-1965), notable for his illustrations for George Bernard Shaw's The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God and for the posters he designed for London Transport. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in bright condition, with minimal wear to the joints and extremities. Internally, firmly bound.
