McCain Jr - a student of war - an apostle of sea power - a treasured friend - Don Hittle Jan - 63." Admiral John S. McCain, Jr. (1911-1981) served in the United States Navy for 45 years. He was the son of Admiral John S. McCain, Sr., a four-star admiral who commanded South Pacific aircraft operations in World War II, and the father of Senator John McCain. During the Vietnam War, Admiral McCain was Commander-in-Chief of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater and an ardent supporter of the Vietnamization policy of President Nixon. McCain retired in 1972 and died of a heart attack in 1981. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Third edition of The Military Staff by Brigadier General James D. Hittle, inscribed to Admiral John S. McCain, Jr. (illustrator). Signed.

Dated from 'Baghdad (Iraq)' on 11 February 1958. A letter of introduction for 'Mr. G. Wynne-Rushton', to five government ministries from 'Staff Brigadier Muhsen Mohamed Ali, Acting Director General of Guidance & Broadcasting'. Begins: 'Mr. G. Wynne-Rushton, who is now staying in Baghdad, is the Advertising Manager of Messrs. Aghabab Advertising & Publicity Bureau, Baghdad representing the British Commonwealth & Empire Trades Index in Iraq. Mr. Rushton intends to allocate in the said Index articles dealing with Iraq, and he therefore desires to obtain information, statistics and pictures as relating to your Ministry. You are requested to extend to him the necessary facilities on his approach to you.' TWO: Envelope, with printed Business letterhead of the Aghabab Advertising & Publicity Bureau. Addressed to 'Messrs. Bahjat Hassan & Co., Rashid Street, Baghdad.' In pencil on cover: 'Copies of Propaganda Letter'.

      Zustand: Very good. - A 2-1/4 inch high by 3-3/4 inch wide card boldly signed "J.P. Richardson" by the Governor of South Carolina. The card is additionally annotated "Gov. So. Ca." and dated "1888" by Richardson. There is a small light brown stain to the top edge of the card and another near the bottom right corner. Very good. John Peter Richardson III (1831-1899) served on the staff of Confederate Brigadier General James Cantey during the Civil War. Richardson was elected and served as Governor of South Carolina from 1886 through 1890. As governor, he established Clemson College.SCARCE.
