The First Battalion saw much action extensively in the Sicily and Italy, including Monte Cassino. The 3rd was initially an anti-aircraft unit, and defended London against the Blitz, and then was sent to North Africa, Sicily and Italy, where reduced Luftwaffe capability saw it designated a Garrison Battalion. The 2nd Battalion was initially in a home defense role, then acted training unit and remained in the British Isles throughout the war.
