Hardbound. Zustand: Very Good +. Second edition, revised. Second, revised edition of a classic work on the Jingdezhen imperial kiln site. The author, born in China and educated in England, returned to China as an assistant keeper of the British Museum, visiting kilns and factories in Jingdezhen as well as connecting with the major ceramics collectors at the time in China. Based on this first-hand experience, Brankston developed a new interpretation of the early products of these kilns, particularly in the Yongle period. The result was first published in the present volume in 1938, and republished in a limited edition, with added material, in 1970. Light foxing on fore-edges, interior pages clean and bright. xvi, 102 pp., 1 col. and 44 b&w plates, line drawings, 2 maps. Size: 25 x 17 cm.

Reissued, with a Biographical and Bibliographical Note of the Author, and a note on "The A.D. Brankston Collection of Chinese Porcelain in the British Museum", by Soame Jenyns (1954), by Vetch and Lee Limited, Hong Kong, 1970. This edition reprinted, with permission, by Oxford University Press, 1982.; Early Ming Wares of the Chingtechen became the standard work on the wares of the reigns of Yung Lo (1403-24) and Hsuan Te (1426-35). The author, A.D. Brankston, brought to the subject a rare combination of taste and enthusiasm, documentation from Chinese sources and knowledge gained in the field. Although its plate reproduction cannot match today's standards, Early Ming Wares of Chingtechen neverthless remains an important pionnering work. Out of print for over a decade, it is now reprinted by Oxford Univerity Press in the Oxford for Asia Studies in Ceramics series.
