Zustand: GOOD. Early printing. The fifth book in this popular adventure series which gives a good look at automobiles in the beginning of the 20th century. Illustrated by Alfred DeBebian with a frontispiece and 3 glossy internal plates. In addition to being a popular author, Braden was the advertising manager for Diamond Rubber Company, in Akron, Ohio and a founding member Association National Advertisers in 1910. 393 pp plus 3 pp advertisements. Fair condition only in red illustrated covers with a picture of four boys in an open car (hinges cracked, approximately 1/4in missing from outer margin on front endpaper and frontispiece, rubbing and wear to the covers.).

Zustand: VERY GOOD. Later printing. The author's third book for young adults, originally published in 1904. An adventure story of settlers and the Indians set along the Ohio River. Illustrated by Fred A. Elliott. Plain frontispiece. 249 pp. Very good in beige cloth with a pasted on illustration of an Indian standing in a canoe on the front cover (gift inscription dated Christmas 1927). No dust jacket.

Pages are heavy paper and are tanned. One page corner has three 1/8 in. chips and a roughened area. The proceeding page has a 1/16 in. chip. The text block ends are darkened and have minute, light stains. The right hand side of the spine strip is wrinkled. About a fourth of the back board is mottled with lightly scraped spots. DJ appears to have been printed on scrap paper, as the reverse side has 2 copies of a one paragraph contract about cotton bales. The DJ has three 2 - 21/2 in. chips, seven 1/4 in. to 3/4 in. chips, 9 closed tears, up to 2 1/2 in., stains, mostly on the spine and back panels, and rubbed spots, mostly on the front flap's fold.
