A very good original leather binding contained in the original leather wallet, with a magnifying glass. 64mo. 28mm x 20mm x 7mm. pp.127/[1p. - Colophon] + 24 full-page illustrations and musical notation. Original crimson goatskin binding with bright gilt titles to the front board and spine. Original yellow endpapers (lightly soiled), with frontis, title-page, and contents leaf. Colophon ( to verso of the last leaf ): "Glasgow: Printed At The University Press." Clean text , illustrations and text throughout. Caption for the illustration as published is attached.Alexander Stuart Boyd was a Scottish illustrator, joke cartoonist, journalist, writer and painter. In March 1881 he joined the staff of the newly-launched Quiz, a Glasgow-based loose equivalent of Punch. He stayed there for seven years, producing comic black and white sketches, and then joined The Bailie, another Glasgow periodical which had been founded in 1872. For both periodicals, he used the pseudonym "Twym." He moved to London in 1891 and started to contribute cartoons and illustrations to The Graphic (from 1893), Punch (from 1894), Good Words, Black & White, The Idler, Sunday Magazine, The Pall Mall Gazette and others. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1912 where he became President of the Auckland Society of Artists.…
