In de dichtbundel vindt men onder meer gedichten over de stoomboot, de heideontginningen in Drente en de Nederlandse nijverheid. In zijn voorwoord verontschuldigt hij zich voor het laten rijmen van ij op ei, volgens velen heiligschennis, maar hij vindt het niet verwerpelijker dan sommige andere rijmen die zijn collega's gebruiken.
