Voordat websites en digitale slideshows gemeengoed werden, maakten portfolio's altijd een cruciaal onderdeel uit van de praktijk van fotografen. Morad Bouchakour stak er altijd veel tijd in. De laatste serie bevatte de beste foto's van vijftien jaar fotografie in opdracht en werk van onafhankelijke projecten. In een vloeiende montage, waarin de hiërarchie tussen opdracht en vrij werk is weggevallen, neemt Bye Bye Portfolio de kijker mee langs onder meer intieme portretten van mennonieten in Mexico, Amerikaanse Indianen, dynamische straatfotografie in New York en eigenwijze portretten van Nederlandse en internationale beroemdheden. Morad Bouchakour (1965) vertrok na zijn studie aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Den Haag) naar New York om daar als fotograaf te gaan werken. Bouchakour, a sometime New York resident, pointed his camera at passers-by who did not stand out in the New York street scene. Communications agency Vandejong, which also works for Foam, then cast the resulting piece of photojournalism in the shape of a large fan-fold that the panel thought well suited to Bouchakourâs style of photography. Itâs a pity this not particularly exclusive-looking âbookâ has been brought out in a limited edition of only 500 copies. It deserves a wider audience. 1000.000000.
