The first edition of this works. Two volume set in original publisher's cloth binding. This work by Frederick Bligh Bond and Rev. Dom Bede Camm explores the medieval architecture of churches. Roodscreens and roodlofts are decorative partitions found between the chancel and the nave of a church. They are typical features of late medieval religious architecture. Bond and Camm document this architectural screenwork, focusing on different regions, such as Cornwall and Devon.With 131 plates and 130 further pages containing illustrations. Collated complete. With bookplates to front paste down of both volumes. Including frontispieces of examples of roodscreens at Saint David's Cathedral and Ashton Church in Devon. In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, sound with slight rubbing. Fading to cloth and slight wear to the extremities. Damp staining to boards of volume two. Slight bumping to corners and to spine head and tails. Hinges tender, particularly to volume two, with cords visible. Occasional mark to boards. Offsetting and age toning to endpapers. Slight spotting and occasional mark to endpapers. Bookplate to both volumes to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Generally clean and bright pages, with occasional spotting throughout. Ink stamp and inscription on blank facing preface in volume one. Occasional mark or annotation to pages. Good. book.

Boards are scuffed with numerous stains (some may be caused by water); edgewear, including some fraying. Boards are darkly sunned with some staining. Some toning and a few water stains to pages, with Volume 1 showing a bit of cracking down the center of the binding. Text and illustrations complete, and binding holding well. Good.
