Zustand: very good. A collection of translations by Leon Boim and Glenn G. Morgan. Alphen aan den Rijn : Sijthoff & Noordhoff, 1978. Orig. cloth binding. Dustjacket. xvi, 603 pp. 25 cm. (Law in Eastern Europe, 21). English text. - This anthology presents a substantial collection of translated documents known as 'procuracy protests' issued by the Soviet Procuracy between 1937 and 1973. The Soviet Procuracy (Prokuratura SSSR) was a central state institution in the Soviet Union responsible for supervising legality throughout the government and society, including supervision over the application of laws by courts, ministries, local authorities, police, prisons, and security organs (NKVD/KGB). It also was in charge of criminal prosecution and review of court decisions, with the right to file protests (procuracy protests) against verdicts or sentences that violated the law. These formal legal objections challenged court judgments and administrative decisions deemed to violate Soviet law. Spanning the Great Terror, the late Stalin era, Khrushchev's 'thaw', and the Brezhnev period, the documents illuminate the official role of the Procuracy as guardian of 'socialist legality'. The collection offers rare insight into the internal mechanics of Soviet justice, revealing tensions between law and political power and the limited yet significant avenues for legal redress, particularly in post-Stalin rehabilitation cases. Condition : very good copy. ISBN 9789028601383. Keywords : RUSSIA, *2006-100 russian law.
