Studying her personal virtue and defects, her policies, the methods of her government both in church and state, and the most notable affairs and events within the Elizabethan period. Edmund Bohun was a renowned English writer on history and politics, best known for his association with High Church proto-Tory thinkers such as William Sancroft, Samuel Parker and Leoline Jenkins. This work was first published in English in 1693. This copy is in French. Rebound in a half crushed morocco binding with speckled paper covered boards. Externally, lovely. Slight offetting to extremities. Prior owner's ink inscription to rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound. Pages age toned to with scattered spots to the occasional page. Small tidemark to upper fore edge of page 428. Very Good Indeed. book.

Includes index, small ink initial "M/8" to front end paper and lower blank margin of the title page. Name (?) inked out to blank margin of the title page showing through to verso and upper blank margin decreasing to first 8pp touching running title "preface". Very small single worm trail to inner lower blank margin of last 4pp and end papers, the content's tight. Bound in a contemporary full brown calf, sign of old handwritten paper label to the spine, some surface rubbing to spine edges rubbing and chipping to the base of the spine, the binding tight with no splits.

Contents clean and tidy, just a very old name showing at the endpaper (T. de Grey), a couple of old shelf marks and a very minor inscription at the blank fly-leaves. No stamps, no labels. Thus a scarce book in better than very good condition.

First edition referencing Copac. With a fold out of the 9 rules of making a good Justice of the Peace. Educated at Cambridge, Edmund Bohun was a seventeenth-century English writer on history and politics. He was mainly known for his political writing attacking the Whigs, for he was a staunch Tory publicist. Although in support of the Glorious Revolution he was briefly imprisoned for the publication of a pamphlet by a gentleman with a similar name. After this imprisonment, and an embarrassment at Parliament, Bohun emigrated to Caroline to be the first Chief Justice there. Collated: Complete Rebound in quarter calf with paper bound boards. Externally, smart with handling marks and light rubbing to top of spine. Fading to boards. Ex libris bookplate to pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean but age toned. Light foxing to first and last. Title page protected with archival paper. Contemporary ink annotation to front blank and page (i). Very Good Indeed. book.

Corners worn and spine rubbed. London : Charles Brome, Scarce English geographical dictionary, first published in 1688; this second edition adds four maps of the continents (as called for by ESTC); the world map found in some copies (which is not called for by ESTC) is not present here.
