Nach Bewegungslehre, Geschichten aus der holländischen Hausbesetzerszene, die 1991 in der Edition ID-Archiv erschienen, veröffentlicht die Agentur Bilwet eine Medientheorie, die sich bereits gegen Ende der vorangegangenen Publikation andeutete. Trotzdem wäre es falsch, diese Gruppe eines Wechsels von der Aktion zur bloßen Theorie zu bezichtigen. Das Amsterdamer Kollektiv arbeitet sowohl im praktischen als auch theoretischen Bereich, genauso wie es auch jene inzwischen selten gewordene Verbindung von Medienanalyse und Politik eingeht. Sein Programm ist die Ausübung der illegalen Wissenschaft durch Rundfunksendungen, Vortragstourneen, Manifeste, Bücher und Übersetzungen von Texten anderer Autoren. Erst kürzlich machten seine Mitglieder Geert Lovink und Arjen Mulder mit ihrer Datendandy-Tour 94 durch die deutschsprachigen Länder von sich reden. Wie auch die Agentur Bilwet die Entwicklung der Medien gerne von ihrem fiktiven Ende aus beschreibt, so läßt sich auch ihr Buch Medien-Archiv von seinem Ende aus erläutern. Denn in gewissem Widerspruch zu Diedrich Diederichsens Vorwort, der die Publikation der holländischen Autoren von allen anderen Medientheorien entschieden abgrenzt, sind Agentur Bilwets Äußerungen, wie die Schlußkapitel belegen, nicht im theoriefreien Raum angesiedelt. Im Gegenteil, mit Texten wie Remember Baudrillard oder Virilio Calling zeigen die Autoren auf, woran ihr Denken anknüpft. Auch James Cameron, der Erfinder des Terminators, und Klaus Theweleit dürfen da nicht fehlen. Neben diesem Schlußabschnitt birgt das Buch zwei weitere Teile: die sogenannten UTOs (= Unbekannte Theorie-Objekte) und die Definitiven Essays.
