18mo. pp. 2 p.l., 240. contemporary quarter roan (light foxing to outer leaves). A socialist classic, outlining Blanc's ideal of social reorganization. "For the unlimited competition of individuals Blanc wished to substitute a universal system of workmen's associations, or 'ateliers sociaux', based on the principle "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." The immense social capital would be collectively owned, the compensation for labour based on the amount of time devoted to work and the exchange of goods facilitated by the use of paper money representing accumulated labour. The government through its 'minister of progress' should provide the initial stimulus for the new system by financing the early associations and should later supervise the functioning of the entire system. In the transition stage the government should nationalize railroads, mines, the Bank of France and the storage and marketing facilities of wholesale and retail trade." Manuskript / Papierantiquität
3pp, 16mo. Bifolium. 25 lines of text. In good condition, on thin paper, with minor staining from label to mount. Signed Louis Blanc . The salutation is Cher Monsieur . The recipient, who is not named, is presumably a bookseller. He is returning two of the books, keeping only the Cabinet Lawyer , whose price he asks. He wants to acquire a copy of the latest edition of la Biographie des contemporains de M. Vapereau : naturellement plus complète, et où beaucoup d erreurs se trouvent, je suppose, corrigées . He thanks him for le beau et très utile livre dont vous m avez fait si gracieusement cadeau . If a subscription has been opened pour le livre de notre digne et excellent ami Karl Blind, n oubliez pas que je tiens expressément à être un des Souscripteurs .
