Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. TWO EAGLES DOS AGUILAS NATURAL WORLD OF US MEXICO BORDER 1994 DJ. I quote from the flap of the dust jacket: Photographer Tupper Ansel Blake and writer Peter Steinhart provide a new way of looking at the United States Mexico borderlands. Instead of seeing a wasteland of browns and grays, Blake and Steinhart, and all others who recognize the value of the resources here, see the pale pinks and purples of ancient rock formations, the clamorous reds of tropical bird species, the cool green of alpine forests and the sparkling silver of mountain waters. I am very pleased to be able to offer this lovely book, titled: Two Eagles/Dos Aguilas the Natural World of the United States Mexico Borderlands, photographs by Tupper Ansel Blake and text by Peter Steinhart. This huge hard cover book (14 ¼ x 12 ¾ inches, 204 pages) was published by the University of California Press, dated 1994 and the First Edition. This book was published in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy Books for Conservation series and is also designated by the publisher as one of their Centennial Books, 100 very special books issued between 1990 & 1995. The book is bound in a fine beige cloth with red gilt titles on the spine and protected by a glossy, pictorial dust jacket. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The gloss of the dust jacket is a bit scuffed and the edges show some light wear, a rolled edge and some roughness. Across the center of the front cover of the dust jacket, there is a short, two-inch mark, as if someone ran a ballpoint pen along it (please see the photos to judge for yourself; it barely shows). That mark is repeated on the front of the hard covers but that is the only mark on the otherwise undamaged hard covers. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and color plates are clean and brilliant, from cover to cover. Both hinges are fully intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

Zustand: Sehr gut. XVII, 202 S. Umschlag leicht berieben, sonst gutes Exemplar. - Photographer Tupper Ansel Blake and writer Peter Steinhart provide a new way of looking at the United States-Mexico borderlands. Instead of seeing a wasteland of browns and grays, Blake and Steinhart, and all others who recognize the value of the resources here, see the pale pinks and purples of ancient rock formations, the clamorous reds of tropical bird species, the cool greens of alpine forests, and the sparkling silver of mountain waters. This new way of seeing is critical to the survival of a unique and fragile region. Long dismissed as a desolate wasteland, the borderlands reveals, much to the contrary, startling beauty, variety, and biological richness. All along the border and for fifty miles on either side lies some of the world's most ecologically diverse land. It is rich in animal and plant species, many not found anywhere else, some in danger of disappearing forever. Blake's photos offer stunning portraits of the life and landscape to be found in this area: bighorn sheep, parrots, groves of cottonwood, jaguars, giant desert centipedes, a perfect rainbow over a desert scene. Steinhart describes the varied habitats-grasslands, desert, rivers, and floodplains-and the lives of the people who live there, as well as the environmental pressures being exerted on them.
