In den WarenkorbNo Binding. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Undated, but circa 1972. Duplicated typescript, stapled as issued. Staples a little rusty, covers a little spotted. Inscribed by the author to Reynolds Stone, "from Robert Birley at Litton Cheney, 29-30 April, 1972. (1204 - Lideton, the tun on the Hlyde, the roaring stream. How sensib…le of Ralph Cheyne to hold it in the late fourteenth century)"; with his autograph corrections on most pages, additional manuscript notes on pp. 2, 12, 17, and extensive manuscript note (on "Henry I and the Lampreys") on the rear cover. Humphrey Stone, in his biography of his father Reynolds, recalls Robert Birley coming to stay at Litton Cheney: "He was delighted that the one book he couldn't get from the London Library was in his bedroom - Boswell Stone's Shakespeare, written by Reynolds' great-uncle, who lived near Bridport. Birley had gone to school in south Dorset and had walked over every inch of the region as a boy. My mother described Reynolds reading the lesson in church, something his father always did, and observed Birley listening, 'his huge frame (6'6") crumpled up in a huge ball, hand propping up his face, fingers on nose - I take a photo of this aspect of him after Matins.'.". Inscribed by Author(s).
